MIDRAND SPCA has some pets up for adoption and members of the community are encouraged to visit the shelter and take one home.
Manager Elsje Naicker said her organisation advised people to adopt and not buy animals.
Among those that need homes is a two-year-old male labrador, a six-year-old attention-loving Chow, and an 18-month-old crossbreed.
All animals at the SPCA are de-wormed and vaccinated.
