Midrand’s Number One man

MIDRAND resident, 28-year-old Johannes Mapalakanye, is one of the 16 finalists in Nestle's Bar One Manhunt 2013.

It is no wonder that his motto is “never give up”. Mapalakanye, who works as a stock controller, took a month’s unpaid leave and postponed his wedding in order to take part in the Bar One Manhunt competition.

Asked why he decided to enter, Mapalakanye said, “I saw it as an opportunity for me to prove to myself that I was strong. I also saw it as an opportunity for me to change my life and the lives of people who are in need.”

In order to be considered for the Bar One Manhunt, hopefuls had to undergo a rigorous audition process. The contestants were judged on both their strength and their intelligence.

The competition is broadcast as a reality show and is hosted by actor and kwaito star, Howza.

The show features both local and international destinations and chronicles the friendships and tensions created during the competition.

Along with winning the title of South Africa’s number one Bar One Man, contestants also stand a chance of winning R500 000 cash from Nestle, a Hilux Double Cab and a Yamaha Grizzly 300 quad bike sponsored by Bidvest.

Mapalakanye plans to use the prize money to build a non-profit organisation training centre in Kaalfontein.

On being chosen as a finalist, he said, “It feels good, it is one of the best reality television shows in South Africa and I got an opportunity to be part of it. It is every man’s dream to be a part of the show.”

Watch Mapalakanye duking it out with his fellow contestants in Nestle’s Bar One Manhunt 2013 on SABC1, Tuesdays at 9pm.
