Community plants trees for Reddy
MIDRAND - As a tribute to late Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy, a number of local businesses and members of the Glen Austin community came together to plant three Soap Dogwood trees at the entrance of Isisango Conference Centre in Rosie's Place, Glen Austin.
Community Policing Forum Midrand vice-secretary, Roslyn Toontas said, “The trees are a permanent reminder of what Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy stood for in our community.”
Urban Forest’s Goliath Mazitu donated the trees.
Bruce Beevers of Eager Beaver Gardens provided his landscaping skills. Policing forum Sector 1 chairperson Steven Johnstone, together with Ilse Welters of Isisango, chose the location as it was the regular venue for the forum’s Sector 1 monthly meetings, where Reddy spent much of his time assisting them, and the whole Midrand community.
Sign-a-Rama Midrand produced and donated a plaque in his memory which will be displayed in front of the trees.
Toontas added, “Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy will be sorely missed as a police officer and a resident of the Midrand community. May he rest in peace.”
