Child Welfare champion helps the community
MIDRAND Child Welfare chairperson Desiree Schutte is a volunteer who gives countless hours to helping the children of the Midrand community.
Schutte is the winner of the looklocal and Hirsch’s Champion of the Month campaign.
The campaign honours members of the community who go the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of others.
Schutte started working with the Midrand Child Welfare in 2010 when she was asked by them to assist with the development of the Sibusiso Home.
Apart from being a volunteer and chairperson of the Midrand Child Welfare, Schutte also has a full-time job as a managing member of an air conditioning company.
When asked how she managed to juggle two full-time jobs she said, “I have a very supportive staff here at the Midrand Child Welfare, that helps a lot.”
Schutte is a very busy woman whose phone is constantly ringing with questions and requests, but she handles everything with a bubbly, can-do attitude that makes her accessible to all members of the community, especially the children.
When asked what drives her Schutte said, “My passion is children. They are our future and it takes a whole community to raise a child. It is our responsibility to look after them.”
