Community and police meet to fight crime
MIDRAND - On tuesday 20 August the Midrand Community Police Forum held their community meeting at the Midrand Police Station hall.

All sectors were represented at the meeting chaired by the CPF chairperson, Billy Rutlin.
Station commander Colonel Steven Moodley was in attendance and visible policing as well as Johannesburg Metro police were represented as well.
Rutlin opened the meeting by asking the community members, police and sector chairs if there were any matters of concern that needed to be discussed.
Many important issues were raised such as who was the right person to contact for specific issues, the status of volunteers being made commissioners of oaths, which Colonel Moodley and Rutlin assured would be resolved soon and response times for police vehicles patrolling sectors.
Colonel Moodley went on to discuss how the Midrand community was being affected by crime.
He said, “Crime in Midrand has been up and down. The largest number of reported crimes have been home invasions and business robberies. The police are doing their best to reduce the crime in Midrand but I also implore the community to help us fight crime by giving the police information that could be useful.”
Moodley commended sectors 1 and 4 on their greatly reduced crime statistics before making the announcement that the Midrand police would be placing a lot of attention on eradicating drug dealing in the community.
Colonel Moodley said, “The longer we wait the more difficult it will be to rid ourselves of drug dealers. We need to stand together as one and take serious action against drug dealers.”
Rutlin closed the meeting by thanking those who had attended and reminding them of the police and CPF fun day on 7 September.
