Murder is down in Midrand – crime stats
According to the South African crime statistics which were released on 19 September, Midrand Police Station has had a few victories.
The murder rate in the Midrand policing precinct had decreased by 20 percent from 10 murder cases last year to eight this year. Attempted murder decreased by 23 percent with 35 cases reported in 2012 compared to 27 this year. Sexual crimes had gone down by 21 percent.
Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm dropped by just eight percent, while common assault decreased by three percent. Common robbery declined by 10 percent and robbery with aggravating circumstances went up by six percent from 554 to 585 cases.
Drug related crimes increased by four percent from 165 to 172 and hijacking incidents went down by six percent. Residential robbery declined by 20 percent.
There were no reported cases of public violence and kidnapping decreased from nine to four reported cases.
