Sewage problems on Allandale

MIDRAND resident, Susan Grieve has reported a bad smell caused by a sewage leak on Allandale Road but nothing has been done about it.

“The awful sewage smell on Allandale is still there and there is another overwhelming stench on Harry Gallan Drive,” she said.

“Unfortunately for me, I live so close to the sewage point and suffer the smell every day. This has to be hazardous to our health.”

Grieve said she lodged a complaint with Joburg Water and received a reference number. “My husband and I have been emailing other residents who say they no longer bother reporting the issue as there has been no response from Joburg Water for close to a year. We want to wake up in the morning and not worry about a stench early in the morning.”

Joburg Water spokesperson Milicent Kabwe said, “The query was attended to on the 24th of September this year. I am not sure why there is a smell there, but we will investigate the issue.”

Speaking on behalf of the City Manager’s office, Pierre Nel said, “As long as people have followed proper procedure in raising municipal services issues the matter should be investigated without delay.

“Residents can continuously use the reference number for follow ups.”
