Conservancy offers food recycling workshop

KYALAMI - The Greater Kyalami Conservancy and Green Neighbourhood Project is cracking down on food waste management in the Kyalami area.

The conservancy and project is teaming up with Midfeeds and Earth Probiotic to teach the community how to recycle wet waste.

Greater Kyalami Conservancy chairperson Kristin Kallesen said, “It is crucial to separate wet and dry waste at source for successful recycling. The conservancy and Earth Probiotics will be at Midfeeds on 26 October to launch wet waste recycling and to answer any queries on the process.”

The conservancy will teach people how to use bokashi probiotic technology to recycle food waste into soil food.

The bokashi system ferments food waste in anaerobic bins, eliminates bad odours and ensures food waste can be composted or fed to earthworms safely and quickly.

Soil with fermented food waste is high in minerals, vitamins and organic matter, which is all the nutrients needed for plants and vegetables to grow.

Cooked and uncooked meat, bones, fish and dairy can be recycled.

The recycle workshop day will take place at Midfeeds, 63 Karee Road, corner R55 in Blue Hills from 9am to 12pm. Attendees can purchase their own composting system and products.
