Business Chamber bestows shisanyama with award
IMBIZO Shisanyama restaurant in Ebony Park, Midrand, won the Small Business Champion award at the National Small Business Chamber awards held in Melrose Arch.
The award recognises small businesses that are outstanding and contribute to business success in South Africa. The African cuisine restaurant’s founder and managing director, Rita Zwane, said, “We are very excited about the award and treasure the support small businesses are getting from organisations like the National Small Business Chamber. Ibizo’s success is a result of generous support from family, community and customers for the past 16 years.”
Founder and CEO of the National Small Business Champion awards Mike Anderson said, “All big businesses started somewhere. The winners of the Small Business Champion award embody what a successful business should be like in South Africa.”
Imbizo Shisanyama, famously known as ‘Busy Corner’, was established in 1997 and it gained massive popularity due to its African identity. It started with a single pot, gas griller, display fridge, gas stove and only two employees. The business now employs 54 people and involves the surrounding community in the everyday running of the business. Rita Zwane hopes to “make Shisanyama the official African cuisine restaurant and take Africa’s ultimate braai experience to the rest of the world.”
Anderson added that aspects such as creativity, sustainability, resilience and skills development were the award’s deciding factors.
Other winners included first runner up Innovative Glass Design and second runner up The Recruit Group.
