Midrand 5 mother ‘angry’ over sentence
MIDRAND - The mother of one of the five joggers killed on Lever Road in Midrand said she is shocked at the court ruling.

Mashudu Mills told Midrand Reporter, “I am very angry about the 12-year sentence the accused received. After the incident happened former Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele said it would be a murder case, but the judge changed it to homicide. Sibusiso Langa did not show any remorse for killing my daughter and the other joggers. My child is gone forever and to think that the man who killed her will be out in 12 years is difficult. I have handed Langa over to God, I do not know anymore what to feel or do.”
Breakthru Midrand chairperson Tim Walwyn said, “Breakthru Midrand supports that a decision has been made by the courts. It will assist friends and family of the deceased to find some closure.”
However Walwyn added, “It is disappointing that the accused only received a 12-year sentence for ending the lives of five promising professionals, but we are pleased that a jail sentence was handed down. We hope drivers out there will realise that killing other road users will be dealt with by the courts.”
On 23 October 2011 five joggers were ploughed into by Sibusiso Langa’s car while they were running along Lever Road in Midrand. Langa was sentenced to 12 years in jail by the Pretoria High Court and he was also sentenced to an additional two years for drunken driving. Pretoria High Court Judge Bert Bam ordered that Langa’s driver’s licence be cancelled.
