Potholes ruin 14th Road

MIDRAND - A frequent user of 14th Road in Midrand has raised concerns about its potholes.

Pieter Potigeter claims he has R12 000 worth of repairs on his car due to the potholes. “There is a pothole that has been patched constantly in front of one of the complexes on 14th Road, but once it rains the pothole becomes a huge hole again. Obviously it is not being well patched.”

The potholes mark the road from where it begins to the end of 14th Road. Potigeter added, “My 2006 Ford Bantam bakkie has taken quite a beating, the tyres and suspension have to be replaced. Many people complain about that road but they keep patching one pothole, which eventually opens up again.”

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson Vusi Sikhakhane said, “The roads agency’s Region A is aware of the many potholes on 14th Road. We had made plans to attend to them in the second week of January. It is unfortunate that some motorists have been affected by these potholes.”

A security guard that did not want to be named, who works for a company along 14th Road, claimed taxi drivers speed over the potholes. “The roads must be fixed, we will die on the roads, some of us use taxis that speed.”
