Pikitup cleans up after Midrand Reporter story
MIDRAND - Pikitup's Midrand Depot has cleaned up some of the dumping areas that this newspaper reported on.
The rubbish next to the Pikitup sign on Lever Road, heading towards Blue Valley, was cleared up. After seeing the Midrand Reporter article about the bush along the R562, not Olifantsfontein as mentioned in the previous article, the Midrand Depot removed some the rubbish. However, at that stage they had not yet collected all the rubbish – they used some of the rubbish as a barricade to prevent further dumping.
On 17 January Pikitup returned to collect the rest of the rubbish and found that the land had been cleared and concrete were put in place.
Spokesperson for Pikitup Desiree Ntshingila was not available for comment.
Citizen relationship and urban management spokesperson for Region A, Pierre Nel said, “Street cleaning along Lever Road is conducted weekly, and bags are collected on the day litter picking is done. We noticed that the litter on the R562 site has now been cleared, the site immaculately graded and the area closed off with large concrete barriers.”
At this point it is not known who cleared up the rubbish, graded and barricaded the area, but the job has been done.
