Bomb threat at Sanral offices in Midrand

ON 26 January Sanral reported a bomb threat at its operations centre in Midrand.

The offices were evacuated.

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters condemned the threat. In a statement Minister Peters said, “There are elements in society hell-bent on undermining the peace and security of their fellow citizens. These backward and uncivilised individuals have elected to ignore all platforms made available to them by our constitution to raise whatever concern they may have.”

The bomb scare was the third threat to Sanral offices in a week. On 21 January the centre was evacuated after reports of an anthrax scare. Authorities have since ruled out anthrax as the white substance found in an envelope at the premises. On 24 January another envelope was found with a suspicious white powder. Details about this substance are yet to be released.
