Boy with cancer has wish granted

MIDRAND - A Midrand boy diagnosed with cancer donated pet food to the Midrand SPCA.

Summit Cycles Midrand helped to organise the drive and ride to Midrand SPCA to accompany Jacques Esterhuizen with his donation. Summit Cycles spokesperson Anton Bosman said, “About 100 bikers and cars came to support Jacques on the day. We collected 800kg of dog and cat food and as of today [3 February] we have collected 90kg more pet food that we will send through to SPCA.” The ride began at Carlswald Shopping Centre and ended at the Midrand SPCA.

Midrand SPCA chairperson Brenda Lucas said, “We are thankful for the support and wish Jacques all the best.”

The Esterhuizen family said they were equally thankful for the support shown towards them.

Jacques was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Neuroblastoma. He has had three stomach operations and is due for surgery on his lungs on 3 February.

Jacques’ mother Lizel Esterhuizen added, “He is having surgery to get a biopsy of his lungs. This is his fifth surgery since he was diagnosed.”
