Wall collapses – again
NOORDWYK - A couple from a complex in Noordwyk say their wall keeps falling down and the municipality won't help.

Deshen and Shubnam Naidu own a home in Essenwood complex in Noordwyk. “We have poor drainage in the complex. When it rains our place is terrible because the drain next to our house is inadequate and clogged,” Deshen Naidu said.
“Two sections of our wall collapsed in December 2013. Our insurance paid and the wall was [re]erected. Thirty days later the same wall has collapsed again, probably due to the water-logging.”
The Naidus say they have approached the body corporate and the municipality about the issue but nothing has been done. “The lack of service delivery in Midrand is appalling,” they added.
Essenwood’s body corporate chairperson Pat Louwth said they are aware of the issue. “We had a meeting with the Naidus on 5 January to try and find the best way to resolve the issue. We have contacted the municipality and hope they will come and fix the drain soon.”
Louwth added, “It is a rather difficult issue as there is a wetland next to where their property is, but we will pursue the matter until it is resolved.”
Wetlands in Crisis chairperson Paul Fairall said the water-logging is of concern to the environment. “The problem has been created by storm water, the Johannesburg Roads Agency has to do something to fix the problem.”
Roads agency spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the agency made a call to the Naidus to explain that they cannot not help. “The complex they live in is a private development, the matter should be tabled with the body corporate which is responsible for maintenance of the internal storm water drainage.”
On 7 January Shubnam Naidu told the Midrand Reporter that a person from the roads agency called her and now the Naidus are hoping that the body corporate will eventually assist them.
