Community urged to join clean up

KYALAMI RIDGE - Community members are getting their hands dirty to clean up an open plot in Kyalami Ridge on 15 February.

Darryl van Niekerk of Kyalami Ridge said the residents have decided to clear unmaintained land on the corner of Cedar Road and Begonia roads in Kyalami Agricultural Holdings to make it safer and aesthetically pleasing for the residents.

According to Van Niekerk the work had already started, and one of the residents had taken it upon herself to supply her workers to begin clearing the area up.

“Historically, we have made sure the grass is cut and people use the land to ride their horses and walk their dogs, but there is a large amount of litter, rubble and broken glass all over the place. In the past, there have been two dead bodies dumped there and an elderly couple attempted suicide there as well. We are going to be clearing up under and around the trees and will attempt to make it as beautiful as possible,” said Van Niekerk.

He said Pikitup agreed to provide a skip for community members to dump the rubble into on the day. He hoped this would also help supply the Diepsloot Buyback Centre.

“We have had a great response from the community so far with regards to the clean-up and already the place is looking fantastic,” he added.

He hoped community members would attend and realise what could be done with everyone’s combined efforts.
