Eskom to investigate unfinished construction

PRESIDENT PARK - A resident of President Park, who wishes to remain anonymous, has said she is disappointed with Eskom.

“The mini-substation and cables on the corner of West and State roads in President Park is still incomplete after 12 months of construction,” she claimed.

She added,”To make it worse, a man believed to be a security guard has set up a ‘shack’ next to the Eskom box.”

President Park Residents Association chairperson John Gainsford responded, “Eskom’s equipment is all in place but is not yet tested or in use. Eskom posted a security guard so that no one steals cables… We are going to invite Eskom to our Ten Plus meetings, hopefully we will get more answers,” Gainsford added.

Asked about these allegations, the power utility’s media liaison said, “The problem of squatters is everywhere, the shack next to the box is not of a man hired by Eskom to guard the box. We do not get security guards to look after the boxes as the community seems to think. Eskom has a security company that patrols its property but none of the security people live there.” The media liaison officer said the power utility would investigate the issues that have been raised by residents. “If any of our contractors left work unfinished we will look into it.”
