Youth grow trees
MIDRAND - The Diepsloot Youth Programme and sponsors Century Properties have an ongoing tree growing project with schools.
On 6 February Grade 6 pupils from Muzomuhle Primary School had a fun morning during their first ‘tree exchange’ ceremony. All pupils involved in the project received a new school bag made from recycled billboard material and a goodie bag filled with treats.
Diepsloot Youth Programme spokesperson Tracy Henley said it was important to educate young people about planting trees.
“Children learn that trees provide shade as well as reduce the acid rain in our atmosphere. Trees provide oxygen, shelter and food for animals and humans.”
Deputy headmaster of the school Fanie Masilela thanked the sponsors and youth programme for coming to the school.
Century Property’s brand and marketing manager Martin O’Connell said, “We urge communities to empower themselves to grow as many trees as they can and to use them to enhance their immediate environments.”
