Lose those locks for cancer

MIDRAND - Community members should get their hair ready to be shaved or sprayed in the Cansa Shavathon.

The Midrand Shavathons will be held at Carlswald Lifestyle Centre from 24 February to 1 March and at Neotel Midrand offices on 1 March.

The annual Cansa Shavathon is in its eleventh year, and every year community members, including cancer survivors, get involved by having their hair shaved. Their hair is then donated for wigs for those cancer patients who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

The option for community members to spray their hair is a fun way to show support for the week, and the spray is safe to use as it is made from vegetable dye and washes out after a day.

Cansa’s CEO Sue Janse van Rensburg said, “All money raised at Cansa Shavathons around the country goes towards funding the care and support programme that Cansa offers, mainly rendered at Cansa Care Centres. People don’t realise just how valuable a contribution their donation made at each Cansa Shavathon is – it mainly helps to support cancer patients who need it the most.”

Schools, companies, organisations or individuals can also host their own Shavathons from 24 to 28 March.
