Zoom into shape with zumba
MIDRAND - Deshni Harricharan aims to get all sectors of the Midrand community fit through zumba classes.
Paying clients will help to generate an income for Harricharan to host free classes for underprivileged people in Midrand. She is in the process of getting a hall big enough to teach the classes and aims to hold them for an hour every Saturday morning.
Harricharan said the classes were her way of giving back to her community. “[It’s] to take fitness to those who wouldn’t necessarily afford a gym membership,” she said. “Keeping our community fit and healthy.”
Underprivileged people from Midrand and surrounding areas are welcome to join the classes. “I will be mainly focusing on the youth. Zumba fitness is a complete body workout, which is aimed to be fun and easy. Dance away the calories,” said Harricharan.
She started doing zumba five years ago after having her baby. “Going to gym using the traditional methods of exercise was boring and tedious. Zumba was a party. It is my happy place where I get to dance and get into shape all in one. I get to party and shed of all those unwanted calories. How fantastic.”
