Midrand’s lights are out

MIDRAND - Following Eskom's announcement of a state of emergency on 6 March, power went off in many Midrand suburbs.

So far Halfway House, President Park, Glen Austin, Country View and Noordwyk have been affected by the load-shedding schedules.

For a full list go to the Eskom website.

President Park community members raised concerns that criminals would use the opportunity to use an increasingly popular crime tactic of lifting electric gates off of their rails to gain entry to the houses.

City Power also responded to Eskom’s emergency by embarking on its own load shedding.

Areas that would be affected from 8.30am to 12.30pm on 6 March but no Midrand areas were affected by this schedule. Updates will be given on the City Power website.

“We ask all our customers to use electricity sparingly by switching off non essential appliances and equipment during peak hours,” said Louis Pieterse, City Power’s Director of Engineering Operations.

Customers are urged to switch off appliances and equipment during outages to avoid damages during the power restoration.
