Midrand strums the Shadows

MIDRAND - The first Shadows Music Club in Midrand was a success, despite the heavy rains.

Harry Campbell started the music club in Cape Town six years ago. When he moved to Midrand he decided to start a Midrand-based Shadows Music Club.

Campbell said, “The first meeting went down very well. It was a very rainy night so the turnout was only about 60 people but we put five bands on stage and they all had a ball.”

There are established Shadows music clubs all over the world and every year in England some of the original Shadows members host a Shadowmania event for all the Shadow clubs’ enthusiasts to enjoy.

The clubs play music of the band The Shadows and Cliff Richard.

Campbell, who has been a fan of the Shadows, Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley since his schoolboy days, was enamoured by the Shadows Music Club that his brother introduced him to in Dublin, Ireland.

The next meeting will be on 25 March from 7.30pm at Liedjieboer Pub in Glen Austin.
