The dumpsite not conducive for business: Manganyi

MIDRAND - Business owner Solly Manganyi, complained that his business is next to a rubbish dumb and a bad road on corner Old Pretoria Road and Moritz Avenue in Halfway House.

“Johannesburg Roads Agency workers came to try and fix the potholes on the road but a day later the filing they used to patch came off the the rocky gravel is now scattered on the road, further damaging people’s tyres.”

Manganyi said he did not report the matter to the agency. “It is their job to fix roads, we cant report everything [because] they know roads need to be fixed.”

The businessman also complained that next to his business premises there is a dumpsite. “To make it worse, a homeless man likes to use the dumpsite as a toilet to relieve himself. I am tired of the smell that comes into our offices because of all the rubbish lying around. The homeless man likes to get naked a lot, someone should move him.”

He added that, “If Pikitup come and clean up I will take cleaning products from my company to maintain the place, I just need their help.”

Speaking about the problem of the homeless man who strips naked Metro Police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said, “There is nothing we can do if the homeless man refuses to leave the dumpsite willingly. In such situations we contact the Social Services department and tell them about the issue and they then take up the matter.”

Mamonyane said metro police will patrol on corner Old Pretoria Road and Moritz Avenue and monitor the situation until metro police reports the issue to Social Services.

Pikitup Spokesperson Pansy Jali said, “Residents and businesses should report waste related issues so that we clear the rubbish. We have sent a Pikitup team to the given address and they will begin clearing up. ”

The Johannesburg Roads Agency is currently on a deadline to finish patching potholes and repainting road markings by end of April.
