Midrand Chess Schools league begins
MIDRAND - The Midrand Chess schools league 2014 has begun.
Midrand chess club president Chris Eale said, “On 9 May we went to Halfway House Primary school. The league will take place at different schools around Midrand until 16 June, Youth Day. On Youth Day the tournament will be open to all players, not just league players.”
Eale said schools participating in the league so far are “Halfway House Primary School, Hillkruin Montessori School, Midrand Primary and High Schools, Reddam House Sagewood School and Summit College,” he said.
The club’s president added that, “Each school presents a team of 10 players and on 16 June winners will receive cash prizes. We will have a school league prize and youth day open tournament prizes.”
Chris Eale said the prizes to be won by each team are:
- 1st Place: Midrand Chess crown, R1 800 and 12 gold medals.
- 2nd Place: R1 300, 12 silver medals.
- 3rd Place: R1000, 12 bronze medals.
