A more equipped school for better learning

CRAWTHORNE - Vodacom International Business division has lent a helping hand to a pre-school in Olievenhoutbosch.

The pre-school, Kgatelopele Day Care is one that Botshabelo Babies’ Home, based in Crowthorne, works with on its Pre-school Teacher Training Programme. The pre-school schools around 60 children.

Melodius Chifamba is one of the teachers on the programme and she teaches at the school. Botshabelo Babies’ Home’s Michelle Hinrichsen said, “Melodius is doing really well and we are happy with her progress. But with the progress of a teacher’s skills and teaching ability needs to come an upgrading of the school’s facilities. We believe that every child, no matter their socio-economic status, deserves a great education in a safe and adequately resourced school.”

Hinrichsen said the home has pre-school makeover projects done by corporate groups, like Vodacom’s International Business division, which spend one day or more uplifting the school’s facilities.

“This team from Vodacom International Business painted all the classrooms, the jungle gyms, donated and put up shelving in the classes, donated educational posters and a new sign for the school. They also gave the children a fantastic lunch treat. Their one day in the community has made a huge change in many lives – its not just about painting classrooms, but about placing dignity on the teachers and children of the schools – saying that they are truly worth a great education and can take pride in their school,” said Hinrichsen.

She extended a huge thank you to the team on behalf of the home and pre-school.

“Others can get involved in projects like this by doing their own preschool makeover, or donating educational equipment to the schools we work with – such

as story books, shelving, posters, carpets, tables and chairs, sleeping mats and loads more,” said Hinrichsen.
