Company gives to charity

MIDRAND - Employees of Midrand company, Generic Insurance have begun an initiative that seeks to benefit disadvantaged children.

Chairperson of the company’s employees committee, Sune Amaro said many of the staff at the company wanted to give to charities but did not know where to start. “We decided to make a donation to Knit a Square, a charity for orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa.”

She explained that the employee committee would make a donation to a different child-focused charity every two months. Amaro said the company chose children’s charities as “we can make a difference in children’s lives”.

She added that the employees donated clothes, underwear, toys and other wish-list items to the charity.

The company’s chief executive officer, MC Du Toit said Midrand companies could join Generic Insurance staff and bring clothing items to be donated. “We will collect all donated items within the next two months then give them away to charities,” he said.

“Let us create a platform within our community for Midrand employees to become more active in our responsibilities to the children of our country.”

A volunteer of Knit a Square, Wendy Hardy said, “We are thrilled about the donations, it will go a long way in helping children who need it. Thank you to the staff at Generic Insurance for opening their hearts to the cause.”
