Spend 67 minutes at children’s home
MIDRAND - As Mandela Day draws near, New Jerusalem Children's Home is calling on community members to join the home in celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela.
Directors and founders of the home, Anna and Phina Mojapelo, urged both corporates and individuals to spend their 67 minutes of public service at the home.
The home cares for about 80 orphaned or abandoned children and they said they wanted to make July a special month for the home’s children.
“This is only made possible through the kind participation of community members as yourselves. Through this celebration of Mandela’s birth, we aim to serve as a global call to action for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better,” said Mojapelo.
Phina further explained the role of the home. “New Jerusalem Children’s Home is a 24-hour holistic residential care centre which provides care services aimed at
addressing the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of orphaned and vulnerable children and youth from 0 to 18 years. It opened its doors
in 2000 [and] to this day provides essential social work services: therapeutic, counseling, reunification of children, facilitation of foster and adoption, developmental, therapeutic and recreational programmes,” said Phina.
The sisters said they hoped community members would join them in treating the children to a fun day and help the home with its basic needs.
