Mr SA finalist helps pets

MIDRAND - Mr South Africa 2014 finalist, Brett Palfaman has extended a helping hand to the animals at Midrand SPCA in the first of a series of drop-off donations.

Palfaman said he was a huge animal lover and he always tried to help pets as much as he could. “I’ve taken it upon myself to help the charities supported by the Mr South Africa Foundation, as well as to take on one that is personally close to me, and that has found a place in my heart,” said Palfaman.

With the help from his family friends and colleagues, Palfaman collected animal food, toys and blankets for the Midrand SPCA’s animals.

More community members can join his donation campaign as he will be collecting items over a period of two weeks before dropping them off. He hopes to double the quantity that he delivers each time.

“Every time I visit [the SPCA], I have to fight back the tears, and it breaks my heart how someone can just leave their family members behind when they immigrate or just forget about their pets,” said Palfaman.

“With Mandela Day on 18 July, I urge anyone who’d like to make a difference to speak to your colleagues, friends and family to collect as many bags of food, blankets and toys. Let’s all try to make a difference,” urged Palfaman.

Chairperson of Midrand SPCA, Brenda Lucas said Palfaman was a keen supporter of Midrand SPCA and would cycle the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge to raise funds and awareness for the branch later this year.

Lucas recalled how Palfaman supported Midrand SPCA’s stand at the Outdoor Expo and was a judge in the SPCA’s Paw Parade.

She extended her thanks to Palfaman for his support.
