Fire destroys home’s contents

MIDRAND - A fire destroyed property at a townhouse at Country View Estates in Midrand on 13 July.

The couple living in the unit were not at home at the time of the incident. The pair, whose names are known to the paper, declined to comment on the issue.

A representative of the estate’s body corporate, Liz Penny, showed Midrand Reporter the burnt unit and said she was at the scene when the fire department came to put out the fire.

“The couple were not home overnight, and when they finally returned home the morning of the fire, they were shocked to see their property inside the unit had burnt.”

She explained that the couple told onlookers that they did not know how the fire started.

Residents living near the unit said they were shocked when they noticed thick smoke coming from the unit. All property inside the unit was burnt. The walls and floors are still black, with the smell of burning still lingering.

Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said, “We responded to a fire incident at Country View on Sunday morning. The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.”
