Doing it together on Mandela Day
OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH - Old age home, Badirammogo which is seSotho for 'doing it together', was the happy beneficiary of the generosity of Olievenhoutbosch-based businesses on Nelson Mandela Day.
The home needed to be upgraded with door handles, pipes, a new ceiling and a paint job according to Martha Noge, project manager at the home.
She has been running the home since 2000 with the help of the Department of Social Development. She said they seized the opportunity to have the home upgraded when Olivienhoutbosch Plaza manager, Kenneth Masha approached them with an offer to help in any way he could.
Masha enlisted the help of McCormick Property Development, Fish and Chips, Chingos Chicken, Roots Butchery, KFC and Cashbuild to help with the clean-up, painting, and food for the volunteers and residents of the home.
Conrad Walters, operations manager at McCormick Property Development said they first heard of the needs of the home from Masha.
“The entire company likes to align itself with helping out in the community as we exclusively operate in rural and township communities,” he said. “We will continue to support in any way we can, but [Masha] has to take the lead in that as he knows the community.”
The group of volunteers also visited Olievenhoutbosch Disability Centre where they partnered with Jet and Standard bank to hand out clothes and blankets. Stoffberg Masha who volunteered his 67 minutes said, “People from Olievenhout Plaza came to a community meeting and told us what they were planning to do, that’s when I decided to join in.”
