Pedicures for celebrities – and a horse

MIDRAND - Laser Beautique and The Society for Animals in Distress treated three celebrities and a horse to a side-by-side pedicure through the Project Pedicure campaign.

The Society for Animals in Distress corporate and media fundraiser, Carmen Douglas-Kilfoil, said the horse in question is one of the horses from the coal yard project that operates in Tembisa.

“The coal yard project aims to encourage small business owners of coal yard horses to ensure that horses are healthy and put on horse shoes as often as required.”

She explained that the horse – called Bloem – along with many others, do not have the luxury of walking on tarred roads. “Many of the roads they work on are very bad and that finishes the horse shoes.”

Tzvia Hermann, co-founder of Laser Beautique, said the campaign is the company’s way of giving back to the community. “We have the campaign annually and we found a perfect organisation, The Society for Animals in Distress, who not only look after animals but also create employment for coal yard business owners who charge a small fee.”

Invited guests Miss Earth South Africa 2013 Ashanti Mbanga, Miss Earth finalist Michillay Brown, and Cliff Central’s Leigh-Ann Mol said they enjoyed getting pedicures done and meeting Bloem.

Mbanga said, “The Project Pedicure campaign is a great way to show that animals also need pampering and care as much as we do.” She added that she and Brown were grateful to have been part of the campaign and commended the work done by Laser Beautique and The Society for Animals in Distress.

Mol tweeted, “About to have a pedicure next to a horse, who’s having a pedicure.”
