Modderfontein Road re-opened

MAYIBUYE - Modderfontein Road by Mayibuye township has been re-opened to traffic following protest action by residents on the morning of 2 September.

Metro police said Modderfonetin Road was re-opened to traffic, which was flowing again and the road had been cleared. Protesters had also moved off the road.
2 September, 8.51am:
The South African Police services confirmed on Twitter that residents were protesting on Modderfontein Road by Mayibuye and Rabie Ridge and that police were on scene and the road had been closed to traffic.
A group of residents blocked the road and burnt tyres. There were reports on Twitter that residents were also throwing rocks.
It is believed that the protest was sparked by residents who wanted better housing in the township.
