Regal Quality Products shine Eskom Business awards
KYALAMI- THE Eskom Business Investment Competition Awards were held at the Kyalami Theatre on the Track.
It saw a selection of top businesses in the agriculture, manufacturing, and trade and services sector awarded for their outstanding work in the small, medium and micro enterprise sector. Regal Quality Products was named the overall winner and most outstanding business from hundreds of entries submitted to the prestigious competition.
The annual competition invited registered small and medium black-owned businesses that have been in operation for at least two years in these sectors to enter the competition to stand a chance of winning R1.7 million worth of prizes.
“We are responsible for implementing Eskom’s corporate social investment strategy and a large part of that involves improving the lives of the communities in which we operate. We know that one of South Africa’s greatest challenges is economic growth and the lack of skills and jobs,” explained Haylene Liberty-Nel, CEO of Eskom’s development foundation.
Small businesses that showed a comprehensive understanding of the context in which they operated in, and which used solid business models to increase their profits and job creation potential stood out.
Regal Quality Products is a Cape Town-based business that produces a range of household cleaning products, and manufactures beauty soaps and household detergents including dishwashing liquid, household cleaners, washing powder, liquid hand soaps and toothpaste.
The company’s commitment to staff development was a significant factor for it being awarded overall winner. Owner Allie Parker said, “This is a fantastic achievement and it probably means I can buy more equipment and in turn create five more jobs.”
Liberty-Nel added, “The overall winner and the winners in each category are shining examples of the entrepreneurial spirit and what can be achieved when you follow your passion with determination and savvy.”
