Beauty with a purpose

MIDRAND - Miss Commonwealth South Africa 2014 finalist Dr Laverne Asante was crowned Miss Commonwealth South Africa Charity at the grand finale at Gold Reef City.

She has qualified to compete in London later this year in the cultural sector for the international title Miss Commonwealth Africa. The Midrand-based doctor said, “I raised R79 000 for a charity in Soweto, I want to thank all the corporate sponsors who made this possible.”

Dr Asante said the Commonwealth pageants aimed to create a platform for women of all ages to become charity and culture ambassadors within South Africa and the broader international community.

She said she was thankful for the money raised which would help orphaned and vulnerable children.
