Olivienhoutbosch Primary gets maths buddies

OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH - Olieventhoutbosch Primary school mathematics teachers and Grade 6 pupils attended a How to use My Maths Buddy workshop.

The workshops are an initiative by the One Book One Learner Project.

The school was presented with 73 copies of the My Maths Buddy dictionary which were donated by parents, teachers and pupils from Springvale Primary School in Centurion. This was part of a combined effort by radio station Mix FM and the project.

Each teacher received a copy of the dictionary during the workshop.

“They [teachers] were introduced to actions to help them increase their pupils’ understanding of mathematics and its value,” said Philippa Roborg-Sondergard, the project’s media consultant. Each pupil and teacher who attended the two-day workshop, was presented with certificates of completion by the My Maths Buddy One Book One Learner team.

Roborg-Sondergaard added, “Maths is a language and when one understands the words within that language, then application ability is increased. When a learner does not know the words, it slows them down in their learning ability.”
