Soccer tournament kicks off
MIDRAND - The Football 5 World Championships Tournament kick-off took place on 2 November in Midrand.
Interactive Sports public relations officer Nqobile Mabaso said the tournament involved 24 teams which played in a round-robin format over two sessions. “The top group finisher will progress to the next phase of semi-finals which takes place on 9 November.”
Two teams from the morning session who qualified for the semi-finals were African Bank Customer Management and Spyland. In the afternoon semi-finals, qualifiers were CERS Combined and Penthouse Scorpions.
Teams that took part in the tournament included:
Group A: African Bank, Reegans Football Club, Jamaican Football Club, Virgin Mobile, Development Bank of Southern Africa and Balls United, CERS Combined, International Business Machines Corporation, Real Arselona, Trevor Boys, Hollard and Liberty Underwriting.
Group B: Spyland, Nyau Stars, Balls Football Club, Department of Environmental Affairs, Liberty Sports and Social, Penthouse Scorpions, ICAS, Hogan Lovells, All Stars, TCTA and Knorr-Bremse.
