Horse killed after being struck by a BMW

MIDRAND - A horse that was apparently running loose on the R55 on the morning of 8 January was hit by a white BMW.

According to a post on Sun Valley Residents Association’s Facebook page, the horse was struck between 7am and 8am.

Metro police’s spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the owner of the horse was present at the scene and gave permission for the carcass of the horse to be taken to the nearby Lion Park in Honeydew.

Minnaar said, “It is unclear how the horse became loose on to the road.” The passengers of the white BMW are said to be residents living near the R55 and were apparently not injured.

The Lion Park refused to comment, however they did confirm that the carcass of the horse had been taken to them presumably to be fed to the lions.
