Elderly citizens get mouth watering treats at Purple Lounge
MIDRAND - The first of a series of monthly senior citizens free meals campaign at the Purple Lounge on Richards Drive in Midrand kicked off on 18 February.
Strini Moodley, the owner of the restuarant, said he had a brainwave one day, with the belief in the concept of giving.
The meals will be provided on the second Wednesday of every month. The next free meal drive will be on 11 March.
Moodley said he is looking to change the image of the restaurant and looking to attract a more family-orientated crowd while keeping its element of fun.
“We have a family dinner, then there is dancing afterwards.”
On the day, Moodley and his two cooks prepared an authentic Indian meal of chicken briyani, dal and a carrot salad. They prepared a meal big enough to feed 50 people, however the conservative crowd of 20 made a meal out of it.
Moodley said they would not be stopping there however, he said any senior citzen that walked into their restaurant would get a 50 percent discount on their meal, on any given day.
“The deal is restricted to one meal per person though,” he said.
After their meal and while awaiting their free ice cream, the senior ladies chatted among themselves and the gentlemen went outside for a heated game of cards.
Vanilla ice cream was served shortly afterwards, as the cherry on top of a delicious luncheon.
