Big plans for Nokuphila Pre-Primary School in President Park

PRESIDENT PARK - The Love Trust Organisation recently unveiled their plans for non-profit Nokuphila Pre-Primary School – it will now go beyond Grade 12 and will require an extension to the school.

“We created this school in the image of its sister school, Midrand Christ Church,” said the organisation’s head and founder, Reverend Martin Morris as he addressed sponsors, supporters and the children of Nokuphila.

He said their vision for the school was to turn it into the best public school in the country. “We want to set the benchmark for all public schools in the country.”

He said the model is developed around quality education focusing on early childhood development centres as well as teacher training centres.

The new building which is expected to be functional as early as 2016, will mean that the school can be extended to Grade 12. And as it is still in President Park, it will still serve the disadvantaged children from neighbouring townships such as Ivory Park, as is its aim.

“[We started this school] with the intention of creating new opportunities for vulnerable children and their families. We hope to serve in a way that will open horizons and provide for an improved quality of life,” said Morris.

What started as a ground-breaking ceremony turned into a day of fun as young and old were encouraged to do things differently. Instead of grabbing a shovel and literally breaking the ground, attendees were invited to dip their hands in paint and press them against a huge canvas that will hang on the walls of the school once the building was finished.

“This is symbolic of all the hands that would have gone into the building of this school,” said Morris.

The pupils put on a show of song, dance and drama to entertain their guests.
