Man tries to escape from police station; shatters glass door

MIDRAND - A MAN tried to flee from police custody at the Midrand Police Station at 6pm on 30 June after a domestic violence case was opened against him.

The suspect had unwittingly followed his wife to the police station where she was opening a domestic violence case docket after he violated a previous court order. Police spokesperson Constable Nanty Belebesi said, “The wife opened a case of contravention of the protection order. When the suspect arrived at the front office and realised a case had been opened against him he ran through a glass door at the station, shattering it.”

The suspect was chased by police officers and immediately arrested after attempting to flee the scene. “He has been charged with malicious injury to property and contravention of the protection order and will soon appear at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court.”
