New Miss Heritage SA national director
MIDRAND - A Midrand resident and medical doctor, Laverne Asante, has been appointed as Miss Heritage SA national director.
The pageant’s CEO Mandla Mkhize confirmed that Asante had been appointed and added, “Dr Asante has been appointed as the national director. Our next pageant is set to be held on Heritage Day, 24 September, at a venue that is yet to be announced.”
Asante is currently working as a general practitioner. She has extensive modelling and pageantry experience having held a number of titles herself, including Miss Commonwealth SA charity 2014, Miss Gauteng Mzantsi Africa 2013, Miss Edenvale 2013 and Ultimate Model International 2012. She represented South Africa at the Miss Commonwealth International pageant in London last year.
“I am also an established pageant judge having judged a number of prestigious pageants including Mr and Miss Johannesburg pageant on 20 June,” said Asante.
She is passionate about charity work and giving back to the less fortunate. “I raised over R70 000 for an organisation helping orphans in Soweto last year, and I am the founder of the Dr Asante Foundation aimed at grooming underprivileged girls and empowering them through education.”
Asante said she was honoured to be given this task as it was a huge responsibility, and allowed her the opportunity for growth.
The winner of Miss Heritage SA will represent South Africa at the Miss World Heritage finals to be held in South Africa on 14 November.
