Ivory Park police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said it is not yet clear if the suspect was part of the group attending the ceremony, or if it was someone who just walked into the room where the victim was sleeping.

Sekgobela explained, “According to the victim, after the ceremony was performed, she felt drowsy and decided to go and sleep in one of the bedrooms. While still in a haze, she realised that the suspect was raping her.”
The victim managed to push him away and screamed for help. People who were outside the house heard her scream and came to her rescue and apprehended the suspect, who was found in his underwear.

“The victim told police that she does not know the suspect. The suspect was arrested and taken to Ivory Park Police Station. He will soon appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court to face a charge of rape,” said Sekgobela.
