Country View turns 25!
COUNTRY VIEW- As the suburb of Country View turns 25 this July, a resident who has lived there since it was brand new, shared his thoughts with Midrand Reporter.
Ram Chinsamy said, “My neighbour Mervin Dalton and I have been in Country View for close to 25 years. My home was one of the first to be built there at Tacoma Place.”
He said the suburb was labelled a ‘free settlement’ or ‘grey’ area, and people of all colour and creed called it home. “Young and proud new home owners raised and nurtured their families here, enjoying the wide open spaces that Country View offered them and gardens were created,” said Chinsamy.
Neighbourhood watches were established due to criminal activities and this watchful eye drew the new community even closer. Twenty five years later, the suburb is filled with huge homes and gated townhouses such as Country View Estates and Country View Gardens.
Former Miss Gauteng 2011, Sandi Maqoqa also lives in Country View. She said, “I moved to Country View because it is quiet and central. I can easily access places I need for work and leisure purposes.”
A property agent from Golden Homes Midrand, Brendon MacMurray, said the Country View area demands are growing steadily. He said, “Due to many couples travelling in opposite directions to work, the centrality of the suburb is key, especially to also access the Olifantsfontein and Samrand offramps.”
MacMurray said the appeal of the complexes and estates in the area certainly add value to what once was a slower moving area in the Midrand property market. Estate agents are experiencing a rise in the property prices in the area and expect great future sales.
Ward 92 councillor, Leepile Motsumi said, “Resurfacing of a road, TumbleWeed Place, is the latest planned issue for Country View. The work has already begun.”
