Be safe when carrying large amounts of money

MIDRAND - A business owner from Ivory Park Ext 2 was allegedly hijacked and robbed of R170 000 by three suspects while he was on the way to deposit money at a bank.

Ivory Park police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said on 27 July the suspects approached the victim in his car at a stop sign. They threatened the victim at gunpoint and forced him out of his vehicle. The criminals drove away in the vehicle with the money allegedly inside the car.

Sekgobela added that the stolen vehicle was later recovered by members of Ekurhuleni Metro police, but no money was found in the car.

Ivory Park police are appealing to community members to be vigilant whenever they are on their way to make a large deposit at a bank, and also to ensure that they do not pass that information to anyone before they leave to go to the bank.
