Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo said the coach was not affiliated to any school and had put together a team of young boys from the community to play soccer.
Nhlongo explained, “It is alleged that the suspect went to the boy’s mother and told her that her son had to attend a sporting event in Pretoria. The parent allowed the coach to take her son on the alleged trip. She later found out that there was no sports event and her son had allegedly been raped. She then reported the matter to police.”
The young boy will receive counselling. Parents are urged to make certain that sports outings are planned events.
The suspect will appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on a charge of rape.
