According to Colonel Steven Moodley, station commander of Midrand Police Station, Lamola was part of a group of 60 church-goers who were dancing and singing in Olievenhoutbosch at 3 am on 2 August when a BMW plowed into them, killing three members of the group, including Lamola, and injuring another three.
The injured church-goers were taken to Tembisa hospital.
Eyewitnesses allege that the motorist who plowed into the group had been speeding.
The motorist fled the scene after the collision.
Moodley is appealing to the public to come forward with any information they may have about the tragic incident.
Moodley spoke on behalf of the management and staff of the Midrand Police when he said, “our prayers are with his [Lamola’s] loved ones during this difficult time.”
