New policy on serial crime investigations hoped to catch alleged Midrand serial rapist

MIDRAND - The policy on the investigation of serial crime investigations with the establishment of special and dedicated task teams will be announced on 7 August.

Times Live is reporting that Police Minister Nathi Nhleko will make the announcement, but reported that for the families of the three Midrand women who were raped, two of whom were also murdered by an alleged Midrand stalker, the policy comes too late. A police source was quoted as saying that if there was a dedicated task team, such suspects would have been caught years ago.

The report said the new police policy would allow for investigations to be streamlined and help police units, police and prosecutors to co-operate closely.
