Her first day at the school was 27 July, 1994 when the nursery school had five students and three staff members which were Gonsalves, Dione Rautenbach and Janet Skosana.
“[I started when] 7th Road and 8th Road were still just sand roads,” said Gonsalves.
“Most of the properties in Erand, Midrand, surrounding the school were 20-acre plots with horses and lots of wildlife.”
The nursery school co-principal Sonya Toet; nursery head of administration, Anja von Pfeil; and the school’s Spirit Committee’s Lynn Gaylard and Liezel Human organised a surprise party with the help of all the Summerhill staff.
After the party, Gonsalves released 21 pink and white balloons, much to the delight of staff and pupils.
