Police find boxes full of ARVs in veld

AUSTIN VIEW - Rabie Ridge police recovered boxes full of Antiretroviral (ARVs) drugs abandoned on Dale Road in Midrand on 26 August.

The station’s police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo said, “The boxes were dumped in a bush, we are still investigating where the boxes came from. The medication has a 2016 expiration date.”

Nhlongo added that there is a trend of drug users smoking ARVs. Police will also investigate the possibility that a delivery van may have been hijacked or robbed.

While police investigate, City of Johannesburg spokesperson Nkosinathi Nkabinde said, “According to the labels on the boxes the tablets are not from our clinics and facilities. All our stock is labelled with… the City of Joburg’s logo on it. But we are going to investigate this matter. We’ll send the Environmental Health Practitioners to the spot where the medication was found and also liaise with the police station soon.”

Tembisa Hospital spokesperson Lesibana Ledwaba said, “We have not received any reports from the pharmacy about any missing medication.”
