Brick thief chased and arrested

VORNA VALLEY - A man was arrested for allegedly stealing 251 bricks in Vorna Valley on the evening of 29 August.

Ria Sebetsa Security managing director Danny Maduray said while patrolling the Vorna Valley area at night, Ria Sebetsa security officers noticed a white Toyota Corolla with a trailer. Security officers became suspicious of the person who was loading bricks at night onto the trailer on the corner of Pretorius Street and Le Roux Avenue.

Maduray said, “When security officers stopped to question the man who was with his young son, he got angry and started swearing at the security officers. The man told his son to get into the car, as did he, and they sped off almost knocking down one of the security officers.”

The security officers gave chase and caught up with the suspect at Halfway Gardens. Police were then called to the scene once the suspect was caught.

Midrand police spokesperson Matome Tlamela confirmed that the man was arrested for stealing bricks. “It is alleged that when the suspect was asked by security officers who gave him permission to take the bricks that were not his, he swore at them and drove off.”

The suspect was detained at Midrand Police Station and will soon appear at Midrand Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft.
